April 3, 2010 Old House Fair
For the fourth consecutive year, the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia sponsored the Old House Fair at Germantown Friends School. The Fair united people interested in restoring, maintaining and updating their older and historic homes with highly skilled specialist who know the challenges inherent to the old house. More than 700 people joined us on Saturday, April 3rd for the 2010 Fair.
Preservation professionals ranging from energy efficient and green builders, masons, roofers, window restoration companies, historic wall coverings and paint experts and a select group of local and regional non-profits comprised the 66 vendors. All exhibitors represented products, services and information relevant to older and historic houses. Visitors had opportunities to discuss their particular issues with specialists and could pose questions on anything and everything from insulation and windows, to electrical systems, construction and contracting and heating/cooling issues. The positive feedback of visitors and vendors alike tells us that the Old House Fair successfully united owners of historic homes with the resources needed to maintain them.
The Fair also featured hands-on demonstrations by specialty craftspeople, along with an impressive collection of presentations by both the participating vendors and preservation specialists concerning preservation practices, products and services. Homeowners had a multitude of opportunities to meet with exhibitors, attend demonstrations and presentations, take advantage of the “Ask the Experts” consultations, and gather useful information at the Resource Center. Attendees also received a copy of the Old House Fair Program Guide, featuring useful information and a listing of detailed information about each of the vendors.
